STEADY AS SHE GOES (& DIES) OUT 16/08/2019
Hailing from the North Wales border, the weird and wonderful GRAVVES are a known name in the UK’s underground scene. Since the release of their ‘OH, THE JOY’ EP, relentless gigging, festival appearances and word of mouth have seen their brand of anthemic noise amassing a fan base up and down the country.
Steady as She Goes
Their latest single, ‘STEADY AS SHE GOES (AND DIES)’ takes aim at the mundane and doesn’t pull any punches. ‘I turn on the charts and it pretty much sounds all the same now,’ explains vocalist/bassist Adam Hughes. ‘There’s no bite anymore. There’s a lot of beige instead; an indistinguishable mess.’ If there’s anyone equipped to rage against that, it’s them.
Jaws is a bit of a sneak preview into Adam’s head, it has all sorts of themes which the lyrics hint at. The line ‘I’ll be Brody, you be Jaws’ is about people who think they’re bigger and better than other people (we’ve met plenty since being in a band), but everyone else sees it the other way around. The characters aren’t quite the right way around, but the line flows better that way. The video by CSD videography is one of our favourite collaborations so far. It was great seeing someone else put their spin to our music. It was a new experience for us giving someone else the reigns and not to being a hot dog eating competition or thrown in the back of a car.
We first caught Gravves at Wrong Festival in 2017 in front of a packed-out crowd, we had already had the single “My Pet Rhianna” on repeat.
They had previously been signed to Loner Noise Records and had released our favorite EP of the year “Oh, the Joy” in 2018. We spoke to them after a show and when we found out they didn’t have a label for there next release we have jumped on this opportunity. The new tracks have exceeded all expectations and the sound has matured since the last release. We are looking forward to a special 2019
